Terrain that changes everything
You quickly go from the coast to the Highlands: steep climbs, bends, changes in temperature. Adjust your speed and anticipate braking on descents.
Fords and rain
In heavy rain, never cross a flooded ford (radier). The weather changes from one side of the island to the other: the coast may be dry while the Highlands are in the rain.
Traffic and parking
The coast gets busy at rush hour around Saint-Denis and Le Port. Allow extra time, and use car parks to visit town centres.
Good to know: the highway code is the same as in mainland France. Collect your vehicle on arrival with our rental service on the island.
