This is the magnificent church of Sainte-Anne. If there’s one place to see in Sainte-Anne, it’s this religious building. With its cathedral-like air, the church amazes visitors from all over the world. A listed historic monument, it is the pride of Sainte-Anne’s residents. It draws crowds and film-makers too: a scene from the film Mississippi Mermaid was shot in the churchyard.
Yet a different destiny originally awaited this building. From 1922, on the initiative of the Alsatian priest Father Daubenberger, the building dating from 1857 became a house of God. The priest wanted a shared project to bring together all the parish faithful. He began decorating the church with the catechism children, who made cement moulds shaped like angels, floral motifs and much more. These mouldings still decorate the church’s façade today, worthy of a real theatre set.
