What is long-term car rental (LLD)?
Long-term rental, also called LLD, is a complete car rental service.
Private individuals as well as businesses can hire a recent or used vehicle, without worrying about the costs that come with buying one. Every customer who signs up for an LLD offer has certain commitments to the lessor, including paying a monthly rent.
Long-term rental also commits each customer for a defined period. At MultiAuto, medium-term rental covers needs from 6 to 24 months, and long-term rental starts from 24 months, mainly for companies and professionals. The exact duration is set in the contract according to your needs. Each LLD offer also includes a mileage allowance set in your rental contract.
The types of vehicles we can rent
As a rule, the vehicles you can hire are new or very recent. Multi-Auto offers a wide range of vehicles across several models and brands. Long-term rental (LLD) covers many kinds of car: the city car, the saloon, the 4×4, the SUV, the van and the luxury car are all included.
This flexible solution gives everyone access to a recent, even electric or hybrid, car, whereas buying is often limited to a used vehicle. With LLD, several types of vehicle are offered and available to you.
The rental contract
When you request a car rental in Réunion, you are the hirer of the vehicle, not its owner. You therefore need to tell us your needs beforehand; analysing them lets us set terms suited to your profile and how you use the car.
Once the rental contract is drawn up, you pay a monthly rent for the whole rental period. But don’t worry! During this period, servicing, repairs, assistance andinsurance of the vehicle are included in your monthly payment and in your contract.
The mileage is also set in advance when you sign up for the LLD offer. Generally it is set at 15,000 km per year for petrol cars and 25,000 km per year for diesels.
The cost of your long-term rental is calculated on several criteria: the model and price of the car, the rental period, the annual mileage, and the services and options included (servicing and repairs, assistance, insurance, etc.).
Finally, once your rental contract ends, you return the car to the rentalbranch in a normal state of wear. You can also renew your long-term rental contract for a new model.

The limits of long-term car rental

On the other hand, long-term rental has some limits, such as extra costs for damage or for exceeding the mileage allowed in the rental contract. Depending on your use, the mileage can be exceeded very quickly, leading to financial penalties. The extra charges are set in advance by bands and applied to the hirer.
- Higher total cost
Also, long-term rental over several years can mean a higher total cost. Once the long-term rental contract is signed, the hirer cannot go back on it. And long-term rental does not let you buy the car at the end of the contract, unlike LOA (lease with option to buy).
Rent or buy a car: how to decide?
Torn between renting and buying a car? You simply need to know beforehand what the vehicle will be used for.
If the vehicle is for daily, regular use, we recommend buying directly. For a need lasting several years of continuous use, buying can become preferable, so you are free to sell whenever you wish and drive without restrictions. But there are drawbacks to consider: higher servicing costs, yearly depreciation, and the need for a down payment or bank loan.
So it is important to define your needs and use beforehand to choose the solution that suits you best.
How to hire a car on LLD?
To hire a car on LLD, you must be over 21 and have held a valid driving licence for more than a year. You will also need to send us various documents to create your file. Once your file has been reviewed, we issue a rental contract setting out each party and each condition.
Once the contract is signed, the vehicle is made available to the hirer at one of the lessor’s branches and must be returned to the lessor’s staff at the place, date and time set in the contract. Note that the hirer is responsible throughout the period the vehicle is at their disposal.
